"C" is for "Crazy"

Bonjour from Campagne Maison

1993 United States Postage Stamp Commemorative Issue

"Crazy", written in 1961 by Willie Nelson, ranks as the #1 Juke Box Record and is one of Pasty Clines's most famous recordings.

Patsy was born Virginia Patterson Hensley in the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, VA on September 8, 1932. Legend has it that she was entertaining neighbors at the age of 3! Her natural talent and spirit took her to the top of the Country Music Charts in 1962 and her style and popularity has never waned.

Patsy's big break came when she won an Arthur Godfrey Talent Show in 1957 with the hit "Walking After Midnight". She pursued a recording career and appeared on the Grand Ole Opry in 1958 and was awarded Country Female Artist of 1961 and 1962.

On March 6, 1963, at the age of 30, Patsy's career ended tragically when she died from injuries received in a private plane crash near Camden, TN.

In 1973, she was elected posthumously to the Country Music Hall of Fame and her reputation is on record as one of the major female vocalists of all time.

Patsy Cline always remind me of my Mother. She played her music a lot while I was young. She was going to to the last concert (which was in KC) but wasn't feeling well. (She was pregnant with my brother at the time.)My children listen to her and think of me....the circle continues. Nice post...thanks for the memories!

My mom loves Patsy Cline. When she went to the nursing home, I gave the activity director all her CD's and she plays them for the residents. Good C word.

CRAZY? Patsy had a great voice. I was young and my dad didn't like rock and roll and he always tried to get me to listen to country. Many years later, I realized my dad was right. Country songs tell a story, usually about real life. Who would have thunk, Willie Nelson wrote that song way before he became a star himself.

How I love Patsy Cline and that song, "Crazy." It is terrific, no matter who sings it - Julio Iglesias does a pretty good job. How sad that Patsy's life ended at such an early age!

What a great post! I think I'll listen to some Patsy Cline when I go home today. One day out walking I found a CD of her music, that somebody had obviously lost. That's how I was introduced to her. Isn't it funny how life works. Serendipity.

Hi Jacque. I sure been meaning to leave you a message and finally sat down this morning with that purpose in mind. First, let me say what a lovely photograph of you!

It is always fun to visit your site to see what you are doing.

Love the music and especially your recent post about Patsy Cline.

I don't know a man or woman alive who doesn't stop in dead their tracks to listen to every word with complete understanding when Patsy sings "Crazy". And Willie Nelson is a genius for composing it. It is my favorite song, ever ever.

Also Jacque, will you do a post soon about cooking/baking? I'm always hungry. Can you make it something sweet? Can you make it with Splenda?

Your friend,
Mrs. D
